The Avenue 66 Grade Separation project has been in the works for more than a decade. As trucking and train traffic in the regional freight corridor increased, and the community continued to grow, a safe and reliable access point in and out of Mecca was critical. This new, 800-foot long bridge crosses Hammond Street, the Union Pacific Railroad and Highway 111, to safely connect cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles from Mecca to Avenue 66 and Highway 111. The project also helped reduce travel delays and congestion at the 4th Street at-grade crossing.
